Design Approaches
Lab session J16E28: Wed 03 Feb 2010
02 | Project Brief Review and putting pencil to paper - initial style ideas
If design is about problem solving - what problems does the client have that need to be solved?
Identify a possible style/approach/atmosphere for the project Pinpoint the type of psychological appeal/message the project needs
Having identified problems that need to be solved and possible approaches in terms of genre, style, atmosphere and psycological appeal, etc., carry out research into those issues that may provide inspiration and ideas to solve the identified design problems.
Use your research as influences and inspiration to produce visual creative experiments that are related to the project, but not targeted at producing a brand or a web site design. Produce a series of rough visuals/drawings that may develop into a look and feel for your project. Initial work should be off-line, pencil and paper, but they may be further developed on-screen. Don't focus on high quality visual finish, rather on the ideas behind the imagery.
During the lab session seminar tutors and teams will discuss any learning points from the Discovery Meeting and review the Team's Project Brief
Homework 1.2 - Mind Map & Project Treatment Visuals (Individual work)
- Produce initial paper-based design ideas for a project design 'treatment' (submit individual contribution as linked html 'homework' page, alongside development work in creative experimentation diaries)
